South Iredell senior Julia Scoles saved her best for last. Scoles turned in a dominating performance Nov. 7 during the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s state volleyball championships in Raleigh, leading the Vikings to their first-ever 3A state title. Scoles, who has committed to play volleyball at North Carolina next year, had 23 kills in 32 attempts with no errors as South Iredell swept Asheboro in three sets, 25-14, 25-11 and 25-9. Scoles – named an Under Armour first-team All-American earlier in the week, the only player from a North Carolina school make the first team – was a unanimous choice for the state finals’ most valuable player.
