(Source: Iowa State University Athletics) AMES, Iowa - Thirty years ago today the Iowa State community was rocked by a tragic plane crash which took the lives of seven members of the Cyclone athletics family. The Iowa State women's cross country team was returning from the 1985 NCAA Championship in Milwaukee, Wis., on Nov. 25. The team had exceeded all expectations, earning the runner-up national championship trophy, the best-ever finish at the NCAA meet.
